Amazon is introducing the new streaming app for Fire TV and Tablets. This free app is simply called ‘News’. With our hectic day-to-day lives, it becomes difficult to catch the news; sometimes, it is a little overwhelming because there is a lot to catch up with. News is a blanket term, and nobody wishes to watch everything that is on the news. But the news app on Fire TV is a completely new experience where you get to segregate the kind of news you wish to view. It is free of cost, customizable, and you can watch multiple channels in one place.

Amazon will roll out the feature over the next few weeks, according to the sources. It does not require any subscription, and you don’t even have to download the app. The app icon will appear on its own on the home screen, and it is free of cost because it is supported by advertisements. The news app is another opportunity for Amazon to increase its revenue.

Although Amazon is known for its services like AWS and prime, it surprisingly has a big presence on the internet. In the year 2018, it became the third-largest digital advertiser preceded by Google and Facebook. This way, the company gets to compete with other platforms like Google News and Apple news+ since it has already made good investments in video.

Getting the app started is pretty easy. Just open the app, and you will get to customize it according to the news genre you wish to watch. All you need to do is simply select the available news channels and content categories you are most interested in. You will be able to watch a live stream and news clips from all the popular sources like Reuters, Entertainment Weekly, Yahoo, Huffington Post, Sports Illustrated, Bloomberg, CBS and various other news channels.

If once you customize the news app, the next time when you open the app, it will automatically play the news according to your selected preference. Different news stories will be played automatically, just like in a playlist. Another attractive feature of the app is that you can browse and navigate other stories while you are watching the news.

You will be able to see what the next content is and skip ahead if you like, unlike your conventional cable news where you are stuck watching irrelevant news while waiting for the content you care about. You will have a carousel of different stories from the same channel at the bottom of the screen from which you can select your desired news content and play it. Therefore, the next time you watch the news, all you have to do is ask Alexa to play the news, and it will play it according to your pre-recorded preferences.

There is a dedicated news section for live news. Channels like CBS news and Yahoo news will provide you with live and breaking news. Amazon says that it will add more live news channels by the end of the year. There also exists a section for trending news, and it is broken down to simplify your search into different categories like technology, politics, sports, business, fashion etc.

It has flexible settings, and you can change your preference anytime, which will be at the top in the settings category. The news app will be available on the Fire tablets too. With time you will see additional news providers, categories and Alexa features added to the app.
