Every big technical company has surely been working very hard to bring some solution or relief to the ongoing pandemic coronavirus. Addressing the situation, the CEO of Apple, Tim Cook, has recently posted a new update on his Twitter account in the form of a video. The video is addressing the masses and letting people know about the mask that has been designed by Apple.
He also tells that almost more than 20 million masks have been shipped through its global supply chain. Tim Cook further states that the Apple Company is also working very closely with the government, and manufacturing more masks to donate them to wherever they are needed.
While showing one of the masks in the video, Tim Cook said that their company has launched “a company-wide effort bringing together product designers, engineering, operations, packaging teams, and our suppliers to design, produce and ship face shields for health workers.”
The video that was shared worldwide, have the following tag, “Apple is dedicated to supporting the worldwide response to COVID-19. We’ve now sourced over 20M masks through our supply chain. Our design, engineering, operations, and packaging teams are also working with suppliers to design, produce, and ship face shields for medical workers.”
In the video, the CEO of Apple is also seen telling the people that their first shipment was made to the Kaiser Hospital facilities that are located in the Santa Clara Valley. This delivery took place in the past week and has received positive feedback from the doctors and nurses that used it. He also mentions that each box contains 100 Shield masks that are packed flat. The Shields can be assembled in a short time of only 2 minutes and can be adjusted according to the user’s preference. The materials are being sourced from outside and are being manufactured in the US and China.
The company has been working diligently and has almost shipped more than 20 million masks throughout the country. It aims to ship furthermore, 1 million masks by the end of this week and another 1 million in the next week. To be precise, the Apple Company will be shipping 1 million shields every week to various COVID-19 affected parts in the US. Apple is also thinking of planning to expand the shipping throughout the world, but it is still under development.
The CEO of the company stated, “Our focus is on unique ways Apple can help, meeting essential needs of caregivers urgently and at a scale the circumstances require”.
Not only Apple but also China started manufacturing face mask in a large amount and has been seen shipping them throughout the world. Till date, China has sold about millions of masks to foreign countries. It was noticed that there was a lack of mask for medical workers as well as other helpers such as police and social workers that have been working day and night to keep the coronavirus at bay.
Therefore in such desperate times, this move made by Apple to provide the country with face shields designed with utmost care has truly come out to be a great help. The company aiming to donate it to people and caregivers at an urgent pace is also a grand gesture of the responsibility that the company has taken upon itself to fight the COVID 19 outbreak.
How far the company will go to stop the spread, is still unknown. But looking at the history, such as being one of the first companies to provide its workers and employees with paid sick leaves, encouraging them to work from home, and also organizing various conferences to help spread the awareness for coronavirus, the Apple Company has left to stone unturned. The company is also a leading member of the COVID-19 consortium by IBM and White House, where they will be sharing data, information, and resources to help find a solution or vaccination for coronavirus.
