The Spotify music streaming app on Windows and Mac desktops can now launch a Chromecast session. Previously, these apps were able to connect to Chromecast streams that existed beforehand. However, they could not establish a direct connection. The workaround technique was such that one had to start a Chromecast session on either an iOS or an Android device before establishing a connection between desktop apps and a Chromecast device via Spotify Connect.
How does one connect desktop apps with Chromecast devices through Spotify?
Desktop apps can be connected to a Chromecast device very much in a manner in which they connected to Spotify Connect – one needs to click on the “Devices Available” button that is present on the bottom right section of the interface. In doing so, all the devices that are available for streaming appear. The list also includes Google Cast as well as Spotify Connect-enabled speakers.
This is an extremely good piece of information for Chromecast users as it has been confirmed by Spotify. An active member has posted the following message on the Spotify Community: “Good news! You can now find Chromecast in the connect “devices available” menu in the Spotify desktop app and browser web player. Now you can cast your music to Chromecast from the desktop app without having to use the iOS or Android app. Make sure your Spotify desktop app is up to date”
It is quite obvious that to get this functionality working, one needs to ensure that the Spotify app which they are using is of the latest version and updated. This functionality is expected to feature in version 1.1.38 of the desktop app.
This feature has finally come after a long wait. Regular Chromecast viewers would be in for a big relief as they can now directly start Chromecast streaming without much hassle. Many user threads within the Spotify Community forums have been requesting for this feature right from 2015. It was around the same time that Google launched the Chromecast Audio.
Looks like with this functionality being implemented, one can easily connect to Chromecast devices through Spotify, without any issues.
What happens when you connect Chromecast with Spotify?
Spotify offers access to digital music, video streaming, and podcasting services by providing access to an ample number of songs from artists worldwide. When Spotify apps on the desktop are connected to Chromecast devices (like a speaker), it gives a better effect on the songs being played.
Prior to connecting desktop apps with Chromecast through Spotify, one could turn their television into a music box by connecting Chromecast to their TV and coordinating it with the Spotify app. With this, the album as well as the lyrics of the song would be displayed on the TV screen. This was achieved by connecting the Google Chromecast to the TV’s HDMI port and then, later on, allow the user to project music content from either a phone, computer, or tablet on the TV.
Chromecast provided users with access to a lot of content on the TV right from Netflix to YouTube. However, it became quite simple for Spotify content to be cast on TV, with the connectivity feature being established between Spotify and Chromecast.
