Facebook canceled its Global marketing summit, which is scheduled next month in San Fransisco. Meanwhile, IBM stated that it is not participating in the Tech conference, which is the RSA cybersecurity conference that is to be held later this month in San Fransisco. Both the events are canceled in fear of health risks caused by the Coronavirus, which is now officially known as SARS-CoV-2.
The whole Tech world is shaking up because of the domino effect of the Coronavirus. Earlier this month, the biggest telecom gathering MWC, which is to be held in Barcelona got canceled because of the virus effect. Now it affected another two major conferences to be held in and nearby San Fransisco.
Facebook representative Anthony Harrison stated that “Out of an abundance of caution, we canceled our Global Marketing Summit due to evolving public health risks related to coronavirus.” They confirmed that they strike out the plan of holding a conference of 5,000 international guests on March 9-12 at San Francisco. They did this to prevent the health risks for the guest due to the Coronavirus, which is expected to take away around 4,000 lives and spread to more than 40,000 people worldwide.
Anthony Harrison said that “Our priority is the health and safety of our teams, so out of an abundance of caution, we canceled our Global Marketing Summit due to evolving public health risks related to coronavirus”
The US tech giant IBM canceled the cybersecurity conference, which is to be held at SoMa that is in the neighborhood of San Francisco from February 24-28. An IBM spokesperson mailed to fortune, stating that “The health of IBMers continues to be our primary concern as we monitor upcoming events and travel relative to Novel Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2). As a result, we are canceling our participation in this year’s RSA conference taking place February 24 – 28 in San Francisco.”
They also stated that their nine companies from China who had signed up for the RSA 2020 conference. Out of nine companies, six companies withdrew from the conference due to travel restrictions.
RSA stated that the conference is going on normally as per the schedule. RSA also said that “Since our last update, the number of individuals, including those from IBM, who have canceled their registration is approximately 0.79 percent of the total number of expected attendees. Also, the total number of exhibitors, including IBM, that have canceled their participation as a sponsor or exhibitor is eight. Six of them are from China; one of them is from the USA, and one of them is from Canada.”
They even said that there are several health and safety measures taken at the conference. Also, they included a disinfecting registration counter and also providing disinfectant wipes.
The Coronavirus triggered the fear of gather people around the world in a single place to meet and greet and explore new ideas. At some events, the guests are said to wave at each other instead of handshakes.
