In a shocking development, Honda has recalled its portable generators after the risk of their catching fire and causing burns surfaced. The company has started campaigning and reaching out to all the buyers. There have been 13 reports of short circuits seen in the inverter assembly of the portable generator. 10 of these cases have seen fire though no loss to property or life has been reported.
A website called news4jax that reports news from Jacksonville has published the report. The fire was lit when the owners were using the device. It has come to the notice of the brand that the generators started catching fire and burning people. These portable generators are marked as being risky, and hence the recall was initiated.
The generators mainly serve as a backup power source for offices and homes. These portable generators from the American Honda are equipped with Honda GX, iGX, or GC Series four-stroke engines, and together these produce a very smooth and quiet working. As for efficiency, the portable generators are acclaimed for their outstanding fuel efficiency.
These portable generators from Honda were sold at many of the major authorized Honda Power Equipment Dealers. A lot of the stock was sold through home improvement stores, which involves big stores like The Home Depot. Not only were these portable devices sold at retail stores, but these were also sold online. The generators had been sold from February 2018 to January 2020, which amounts to a period of nearly 2 years.
The name of the company, year, and model of the generator are published on a control panel of the Honda device. The models of the company namely Honda model EB2200i with serial number range EAJT 1000001 thru 1011342, Honda model EU2200i with serial number range EAMT 1000001 thru 2098790, Honda model EU2200i Companion with serial number range EAMT 1000001 thru 2098790, and Honda model EU2200i Camo with serial number range EAMT 1000001 thru 2098790 have been marked to be unsafe for daily use. These will be recalled with immediate effect.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission has warned against the continued use of the said generators and requested to stop using it as soon as possible. The CPSC thereafter directs the consumers to contact any of the authorized Honda Power Equipment service dealers that are available locally and get a free repair done immediately.
