Google Pixel 4 gets all-new “Pixel Drop Feature”: Better and bigger than ever!

Google updates pixel 4 face unlock

Google Pixel 4 has already been quite a disappointment among the google pixel fans with a lot of restricted storage for the high-end photographs. After all, the very perk of owning a Google Pixel device is the unlimited storage that comes with it for your photographs. But it seems that Google is trying to get things rights due to the previous disappointing storage issue. What? You ask!

Yes, that’s because earlier this month, Google announced that Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL would be getting something more than just a regular android update. There’s something bigger and better in the updated bag of Google for its Pixel devices. Yup, you have read it right. Pixel 4 will be getting a “Pixel Drop Feature” in its update. And this new feature has all the jaw-struck and flashy feature to count!

Update bag of Google Pixel 4

To begin with, let’s start with the face unlock feature! Now the users will no longer have to worry about how to unlock your Pixel device and dread over the new makeup or hairstyle of yours. For the new features allows your device to update itself constantly. Like now the device doesn’t have to constantly rely on the initial scan of your face for it to unlock. The device will access to your recent pictures and photographs to get better scrutiny of your facial features and will use that collected information to unlock the device. And it will continue to do with the addition of more of your pictures too.

Now, let’s move on to the next update, and it seems that now the Google Pixel 4 device has T-Mobile e-sim support which means that now the users can directly activate their device without any physical sim in the conjunction. And can even use the e-sim facilities along with a physical sim too for all the incoming and outgoing call services and texts service. And don’t worry, one can use both the sim together that is e-sim and regular physical sim altogether and can avail their services with no problem or whatsoever. Both the numbers will be valid. And both the sim can be that of different numbers too in case if you are worried if one has to keep the e-sim and physical sim number same.

The new update of the pixel also seems to dual-frequency GNSS which means that your Google Pixel 4 now can access two satellite at once that is either GPS or Galileo Satellites, which in return will, “amazingly fast accuracy in Google Maps with improved on-device computing for much better location quality” according to Google.

According to Google updates on its new Facial unlock feature, “When it’s on, face unlock images are occasionally used to create improved face models. This helps recognize you better over time.”

Not all facial unlock features works alike!

Well, before this new update, there were sure a lot of faults with the facial unlock of Google Pixel 4 device for it won’t let its users slip with anything apart from their natural face. Even a bit of beard or makeup! That’s because according to one user of the Pixel 4, “When I set up Face Unlock with a bare face, I couldn’t get into my phone when I was done up. When I set it up with makeup on, I couldn’t log in after washing my face. This was a problem regardless of how much makeup I was wearing. The Pixel 4 had trouble recognizing me even when I used a smaller amount, and only logged me in about 50 percent of the time.”

Although the users can finally leave a sigh of relief while this new feature is something for the pixel 4 users to be very excited about, this feature also has a dark side to it. Why? Because this feature also unlocks the device with your eyes closed too. Well, the makeup, beard and the new hair-do is a different thing. But just imagine, while you are sleeping or nodding due to any reason and someone might use it as an advantageous move on their part. For they still can unlock the device with your sweet sleeping beauty face.

And this feature doesn’t care if your eyes are closed or open for unlocking the device! And thus a lot of criticism has been gathered on this very issue. According to Fox, “By comparison, Apple’s Face ID system checks the user is ‘alert’ and looking at the phone before unlocking.”

Google has tried to defend itself on this issue and has said, “We’ve been working on an option for users to require their eyes to be open to unlock the phone, which will be delivered in a software update in the coming months.

In the meantime, if any Pixel 4 users are concerned that someone may take their phone and try to unlock it while their eyes are closed, they can activate a security feature that requires a pin, pattern or password for the next unlock. Pixel 4 Face Unlock meets the security requirements as a strong biometric and can be used for payments and app authentication, including banking apps. It is resilient against invalid unlock attempts via other means, like with masks.”

While the new facial feature hasn’t been up to the mark as expected, Google announcing to introduce new features such as unlocking the device through one’s eye is quite a bold declaration. For it has done nothing but invited more criticism to its working instead of quenching the dissatisfaction among the users.
