Soon, the Google Map users will be able to report traffic slow down on their iOS devices; they can report accidents, road closures, and congestion. This ability was made popular by the Google-owned app called Waze. Now you don’t need to own an android phone to flag road incidents.
Google Maps always helps its users to get from point A to point B in the easiest possible route with the least amount of traffic. As per the news, now they are making more efforts to provide a piece of accurate real-time information for its iOS users so that they are well informed when they are on the road.
Google has decided to increase the range of incidents that can be reported, which includes lane closures, objects on the road, construction and broken-down vehicles. These features will be available this week both on iOS and Android phones.
These new features have been inspired by the Waze app, which gives you a very accurate picture of what is going on the roads giving you a clear picture of what is happening on the road. Now that this feature is available on both Android and iOS phones, Google Maps will also be able to provide a clear picture of the roads, the traffic, and potential road obstructions. The same company owns both the apps, but it probably won’t have a clash for users because the Waze app has been developed mainly for drivers since incident reporting is really accurate on it. Whereas, Google maps is used for public transit, cars, bikes, and walking and let us not forget that it provides the information and recommendations of local businesses, eateries and fuel pumps.
Google Maps helps in planning your commute. Waze is still better in terms of planning trips and connecting it to your social calendar; it also provides a carpooling service. With more users switching to Google Maps, the data that will be collected will help Google provide a more accurate representation of what is happening on the roads.
Let us take a look at how you can report the incident on the app:
- Open Google Maps and enter your destination route.
- On the top right below the microphone symbol, you will find the search icon but with a + at its centre. Tap on it.
- A menu will pop up on the screen where you can select the type of road incident. After that, you can just confirm the incident.
Once you are done, the map will show the incident pinned to your location and the number of incidents reported on that location. This way you can help your fellow routers and warn them of any roadblocks present on the route. Along with traffic reporting, Google has updated the app with a better voice guide. It is extra clear and much more detailed for the visually impaired. Apart from that, Google added other features over the summer, which includes a speedometer to tell you the speed of your travel and an incognito mode so that your location won’t leave a trail behind.
