Greta Thunberg attained fame by becoming a climate change activist at an early age. And to honor the same, Hulu has decided to host a documentary on the teen activist with regards to the efforts she has taken in communicating with the global leaders on the effects of climate change. According to sources, B-Reel Films, which has an office in Stockholm, would be producing the documentary. Nathan Grossman would direct the short film.
Who is Greta Thunberg, and how did she become an activist?
Greta Thunberg is a Swedish teenager (all of 16-years old), who became quite famous back in August 2018. Greta had challenged world leaders outside the Swedish parliamentary house for not taking enough measures against the rising trend of global warming and its effects. She held up a sign in Swedish labeled as “School strike for the climate.” Thereafter, many other fellow students followed in Greta’s footsteps and engaged in protests in their own communities.
Her goal behind tackling the subject of global warming was pretty straight forward. She had put forth a question for adults as follows: “If you don’t care about my future on earth, why should I care about my future in school?” Post Greta’s addressing the “United Nations Climate Change Conference of 2018”, there were regular student strikes that took place quite regularly around the world.
In fact, Thunberg has taken a lot of steps at her own place to reduce the impact of climate change. She has apparently urged her parents to stop air travel and quit eating meat. She feels that they could be of some use in reducing the carbon footprint.
Earlier this year in May, Thunberg featured on the cover of Time magazine. In September, she had again addressed the world leaders in the United Nations Climate Action Summit in New York. During this time, she had blamed the world leaders for controlling climate change and global warming.
Greta Thunberg was recently named as the “Time Person of the Year.” Thunberg is one of the youngest persons to attain this recognition. Also, she recently addressed the COP25 Climate Change conference, where she expressed utter disappointment over the manner in which the entire climate crisis is being tackled. She stated that most of the wealthy countries and the huge corporate firms talk a whole lot of global warming and its effects, mainly for “creative PR” purposes only. In reality, very little is done to resolve this whole issue.
Due to the brave steps taken by her, Thunberg has become quite famous in the whole of the US. Michelle Obama has offered a lot of support to Thunberg apart from various Hollywood celebrities like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Woody Harrelson, who have become big fans of this young activist. Thunberg has also been honored with a fellowship at the Royal Scottish Geographical Society in addition to being nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize 2019.
The team which is in charge of creating the documentary has been following Thunberg from the very beginning where it all started – the school strikes of Stockholm. They are all well-versed with all the activities that she has undertaken, like addressing world leaders at different summits. The people responsible for filming a documentary on Thunberg’s works feel that a film of this sort would make the world understand the grave dangers of the entire climate fiasco.
The release date of the documentary is not yet known. It sure has a title named “Greta.” However, when this is released, it would be adding up to the list of documentaries of other eminent personalities like Hillary Clinton. Hulu would be screening the documentary about Hillary Clinton sometime in March 2020.
