Now get AT&T TV along with Android TV set-top box coupled with a two-year contract

AT&T TV arrives on board with an Android set-top box

AT&T TV has arrived all over the US. Interestingly, it had come into a few markets during the previous year. An important point to be noted here is that AT&T TV is not the same as AT&T TV Now (previously known as DirecTV Now). Both are completely different. Now, this latest subscription service of AT&T TV comes along with a two-year contract. This simply means that by choosing this subscription, one would no longer be able to enjoy the freedom of monthly-based TV apps like YouTube TV, Hulu with Live TV, and Sling TV.

By agreeing on the contractual terms of AT&T TV subscription, customers are liable to receive an Android TV set-top box and remote control, which is much similar to that of a cable TV one. The remote control is also equipped with a Google Assistant button.

AT&T plans to portray AT&T TV as a cable TV having the best TV viewing experience. People opting for this would have a better TV viewing experience, rather than a cheaper one. AT&T has tried its hands on this latest TV streaming service after many customers decided on opting out of DirecTV. Along with the streaming service of AT&T TV, subscribers can also install the apps of their choice like Netflix, Disney Plus and many others from the Google Play Store. The smart home devices can also be controlled with the aid of the remote having the Google Assistant. Support is also enabled for Chromecast.

The AT&T TV streaming service can be viewed on television. An app for the same is also available for iOS, iPadOS, and Android. The setup to start viewing the AT&T TV streaming service is pretty easy. One simply needs to connect the set-top box to the TV’s HDMI port. Post which, the Wi-Fi information, as well as the sign-in details of AT&T TV, need to be entered. Once this step is completed, the AT&T TV entertainment channels would start appearing on the TV.

The AT&T TV viewing would be quite on the same lines as cable TV and satellite TV. The remote is equipped with buttons and also a channel guide which is quite similar to that of the DirecTV’s channel guide. However, here everything comes through the internet.

The home screen of AT&T TV is customized. It plays clips from that channel which was most recently played. It kind of gives a live TV experience.

The charges for AT&T TV start at $49.99 per month. Different channels are offered in each package. There is a base entertainment package that contains channels like ESPN, AMC, HGTV, FX, USA, and a selection of many other cable networks. Sports lovers can go for the middle-tier selection of channel packages which is priced a little higher. All regional sports channels are available at $54.99.

Then there is also a bundle offer that is being promoted by the firm. This would include gigabit home internet (wherever applicable) along with AT&T TV for a price of $80, in which both are inclusive.

Now, HBO would be available for free as a part of all the plans stated above. However, this would be applicable only for the first three months of the subscription. Post which, customers who are interested in retaining the channel should pay for the same.

However, there is a twist in the tale. AT&T TV plans to hike the prices drastically after a year of starting the subscription. The base entertainment package would shoot up to $93 from $49.99. The pricing for the Choice package would be $110, Xtra would be $124, and Ultimate would be $135. Also, in case any customer wishes to terminate the contract before it finishes, he would have to shell out an early termination fee, which is about $15 per month.

The main point here is simplicity and ease. Customers are provided access to live TV, useful content and the in-demand apps without having to switch in between HDMI ports or for that matter, change their remotes. The company stated in its press release that one could easily shuffle in between a live basketball game, Netflix, YouTube, or listen to music on Pandora or Spotify. Sadly there are a few loopholes at present with regards to the app selection, as Amazon Prime Video and Hulu are currently absent on the box. So, at this point in time, it is difficult to convince people regarding AT&T TV.

From the above, it does seem that AT&T TV cannot be a better choice when compared to any other different internet TV service or device streaming channel. The price hike after a year would surely not be digested by many customers. The company truly hopes that AT&T TV would emerge a next-generation replacement for cable and satellite TVs. But how far would this reach, only time would tell.
