PewDiePie taking a break from YouTube; He even deleted his Twitter account after this announcement!

PewDiePie taking break from Youtube

One of YouTube’s biggest stars PewDiePie has decided to take a year off YouTube. The star has been allegedly accused of racism and antisemitism. He recently claimed that he feels very tired; therefore, he wishes to take a break for a year. PewDiePie is popular for his videogame commentary.

PewDiePie was one of the most followed accounts this year. He is known as the highest earner of YouTube, with over 100 million subscribers. The Swedish YouTuber’s, Felix Kjellberg has been in the limelight for the wrong reasons a few times in the past regarding the content of the videos he posts. But he has repeatedly denied posting any content that was racially discriminating or anti-semitic.

He had uploaded a video this weekend where he said: “I am taking a break from YouTube next year”. He also added “I wanted to say it in advance because I made up my mind. I’m tired, I’m feeling very tired. I don’t know if you can tell…early next year I will be away for a little while. I’ll explain that later but I wanted to give a heads up”.

In the year 2017 Disney cut all ties with him when he posted a video where he paid two men to hold a sign which said: “Death to all Jews”. This controversy prompted YouTube to remove his show “Scare PewDiePie”, but not his account. Later in the same year, he apologized for using the n-word in some other video. Following the backlash over the video he later admitted that the content of the video was indeed offensive and derogatory, but he made it clear that he did not support any hateful attitudes. A year later he apologized for making disrespectful comments.

The Christchurch mosque shootings shooter who had killed 51 people referenced the meme “Subscribe to PewDiePie” during a live stream of the killings which Felix later condemned the video. He stated that he felt absolutely sickened to be mentioned by the gunman. He also removed some of his videos post that comment by the gunman stating that he understood now how these videos were ultimately offensive. He also said “my heart goes out to the victims, families and everybody affected by this tragedy.

He cancelled a $50,000 donation to the “Anti-defamation League”. Their motto is to prevent the defamation of Jews. He cancelled the donation by justifying that he wished to donate to support a charity that he actually felt passionate about. He later explained “I made the mistake of picking the charity that I was advised to, instead of picking a charity I was passionate about,” Felix said in a video, “which 100 per cent my fault” he added.

He was kicked from the top position of most subscribers when T-series took over the position; they are an Indian music label. The T-series label has around 120 million subscribers to its channel as of now. The fans closely followed both the accounts. PewDiePie was the first person to hit 100 million subscribers.

PewDiePie even deleted his twitter account with title ‘I hate Twitter’ after criticizing social media coverage of this announcement on taking break. While he was about to take a break, some publications stated that he is quitting the YouTube. However, his twitter account is still accessible, but all the tweets are gone. Just to prevent the fake accounts, he left the account without deleting completely.
