The last Nintendo Direct live stream announced that the library of Super Nintendo games will be available to the Switch subscribed users on September 5. Nintendo launched its Switch Online service about a year ago and the next addition is the access to SNES games to the existing library of NES games.
The list of games available at the launch of SNES games are:
- Super Mario Kart
- Kirby’s Dream Course
- Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island
- The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
- Super Mario World
- Star Fox
- Stunt Race FX
- Super Metroid
- Kirby’s Dream Land 3
- Super Soccer
- Super Tennis
- Brawl Brothers
- Demon’s Crest
- Joe & Mac 2: Lost in the Tropics
- Super E.D.F. Earth Defense Force
- Super Puyo Puyo 2
- Breath of Fire
- Super Ghouls ’n Ghosts
In addition to that, Nintendo also promised to add more to the collection later while confining the launch to these 20 games only. As per sources, the new SNES games will also support the rewind feature that was announced earlier this year at the launch.
Making it clear that the Nintendo Switch users have more options, the Nintendo of America tweeted – “Recapture the original feel of these #SNES games with a wireless Super Nintendo Entertainment System Controller! Coming soon to purchase as a special offer exclusively for paid #NintendoSwitchOnline members.”
Sticking to the NES tradition, Nintendo also has plans to launch a similar SNES wireless- controller (though you can still play the SNES titles with your Joy-Cons or another controller) for the Switch, particularly to enable playing of the SNES games that are added newly and brand. The controller would get charged over USB-C type. This will be exclusively available for the Switch Online members at an approximate cost of $29.99, soon.
Among the 20 classic nostalgic games, users will be able to get a hold of games like; Super Mario Kart, Super Mario World, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island, F-ZERO, Super Metroid, Super Soccer, The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past, Star Fox, Super Ghouls’n Ghosts, Pilotwings, Super Tennis, Kirby’s Dream Land 3 and Brawl Brothers. Stunt Race FX will be officially available for the first time on a system that’s not the SNES, and Nintendo promised it’ll add more SNES games in the future.
Nintendo in one its tweets mentioned about the upcoming titles that would release in near future – “20 classic #SNES games, including Super Mario World, Super Metroid, and Stunt Race FX, will be available for #NintendoSwitchOnline members on 9/5! Enjoy a growing catalog of Super NES games with even more titles releasing in the future.”
The best part about this surprise drop is that it’s available basically right now. Check your Nintendo Online app on your Switch tomorrow to begin playing these nostalgic gaming classics.
