While the protests against racism are going all over the world, people found out a new target. Wendy’s has donated for President Trump’s re-election campaign. The news spread like fire, and people started roasting Wendy’s for doing so.
However, the fast-food chain finally decided to speak up about all the rumors that people are spreading about it. According to people, James Bodenstdet, the CEO of Muy! Companies that own various fast-food chains, including Wendy’s, have donated thousands of dollars for President Trump’s campaign.
The fast-food chain finally tweeted in response to a meme. “We never have and will never contribute to a presidential campaign. For the record, our CEO has always kept that same energy too. Facts” tweeted the fast-food chain. In addition to that, Wendy’s even donated $500,000 with the statement “to support social justice, the youth and education in the Black community starting with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, and we’ll have receipts.”
The fast-food chain even made a tweet supporting the protests against racism and President Trump. “Our voice would be nothing without Black culture. Right now, a lot of people are hurting because of blatant racism against Black people. Their voices need to be heard. Period” stated the fast-food chain in its official Twitter account.
The #BlackLivesMatter is trending on the internet, and people are supporting the protests. In the protests of Minneapolis, the people conducted a silent protest, where there was no violence, and even the police officers supported them. Several social media websites are also removing President Trump’s posts which talk about discrimination and racism. One of these social media websites is Twitter, which took action against the Trump posts, which spread pure hatred and discrimination.
After this action, Trump signed an Act which stated that the social media websites should revise their policies and allow such posts, which all the social media websites denied. However, Facebook didn’t take any step against such a post, which made its employees angry, and they made a virtual protest.
For now, all we know is that Donald Trump’s tweet and posts about hatred and his ideologies about racism and discrimination are something that the people do not like, and there will be more such protests.
Before Wendy’s spoke up about the rumors, the #WendysIsOverParty was trending all over the internet, stating that Wendy’s is supporting racism and President Trump, thanks to the news about donations to the campaign. However, the fast-food chain denied all the rumors and spoke up about the rumor after donating $500,000 for supporting the Black community. Furthermore, the fast-food chain restaurant states that it will take more steps to eradicate racism and will protest against racism and discrimination.
So, we cannot wholly blame Wendy’s now, as it seems it was merely a misunderstanding. The thing that we know for now is that everyone needs to stand up against racism and end this thing. While people in the US are making silent protests, all the US-based companies are even taking further steps by calling their black employees and asking about their well-being. These small steps can bring a big change in this fight. Support humanity, support Black people, as Black life matters too.
